FG Extends Deadline For Telecom Firms To Block SIMs Without NIN

 

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the deadline given to telecommunication companies in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number (NIN).

The extension was announced in a press statement issued and signed by Engr Aliyu Aziz, Director-General, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), after a meeting of the National Task Force on NIN and SIM Registration, which was held on Monday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami.

One of the resolutions adopted at the meeting is that three (3) weeks extension should be granted for subscribers with NIN, from 30th December 2020 to 19th January 2021.

The National Task Force also granted six (6) weeks extension to subscribers without NIN, starting from 30th December 2020 to 9th February 2021.

Moreover, the government has also suspended the USSD and Verification charges for the purpose of linking SIMs with NIN during the period.
